What Do You Need to Operate a World Mobile EarthNode?
A World Mobile EarthNode requires computing resources, persistent network connectivity and an environment capable of running the EarthNode software and associated services.
EarthNodes sit at the core of World Mobile Chain. Their responsibilities include processing and validating network activity, supporting authentication and decentralized identity, securing network data and participating in governance.
The exact infrastructure required depends on the services an EarthNode runs. World Mobile’s technical documentation historically distinguishes between a lighter Chain EarthNode and a more resource-intensive Full EarthNode.
Chain EarthNode vs. Full EarthNode
World Mobile’s technical documentation defines two EarthNode configurations. The distinction is based primarily on the services the operator intends to provide and the infrastructure required to run them.
Blockchain-focused
The Chain EarthNode was designed as the minimum EarthNode configuration for operators focused on blockchain services without the additional hardware and operational requirements associated with the full service stack.
World Mobile’s published reference configuration includes a fully functional blockchain node.
Additional services
Full EarthNodes were designed to support additional Communication-as-a-Service modules alongside the blockchain functionality.
Because these additional services require more resources, the published reference specification for a Full EarthNode is considerably higher.
The Chain/Full terminology and specifications originate from World Mobile’s technical development documentation. Operators should not assume that these older reference configurations alone define the final production setup for current or future EarthNode services.
Published EarthNode Hardware Specifications
The following specifications are the initial technical requirements published by World Mobile for the EarthNode configurations being tested. They provide a useful reference for understanding the difference in resource requirements between Chain and Full EarthNodes.

Operating System & Connectivity
Linux Environment
The published technical reference specifies Linux 5.15 for both Chain and Full EarthNodes. Operators should use the operating system and software versions required by the current EarthNode release when production software becomes available.
Network Connectivity
EarthNodes require persistent internet connectivity to communicate with World Mobile Chain and other network services. The published reference values are 30 Mbps for Chain EarthNodes and 100 Mbps for Full EarthNodes.
Bandwidth alone does not determine connection quality. Stable connectivity, low interruption rates and reliable network operation are also important for infrastructure expected to remain available to the network.
Uptime, Security & Maintenance
Running an EarthNode is an ongoing infrastructure responsibility rather than a one-time installation. EarthNodes perform network functions that depend on stable and secure operation.
Infrastructure should be designed for consistent operation and dependable connectivity.
Operators need to keep the EarthNode software and its supporting environment aligned with the required network releases.
Server access, credentials, network exposure and system updates require appropriate operational security.
Monitoring helps an operator identify service interruptions, resource problems and software issues.
EarthNode Software and Operator Responsibilities
World Mobile Chain is already live, while the EarthNode operator stack continues to move toward broader external operation. World Mobile has stated that EarthNode Operators receive software updates as the EarthNode software approaches release.
The operator role goes beyond supplying hardware. An EarthNode Operator is responsible for maintaining the environment in which the node and its enabled services run.
Provide sufficient compute, memory, storage and network resources.
Install and maintain the software required to participate in the World Mobile network.
Keep the node environment available, maintained and responsive to network updates.
Operate the services supported by the chosen EarthNode configuration as they become available.
Can a World Mobile EarthNode Be Operated Remotely?
Yes. World Mobile states that EarthNodes have no geographical restrictions and can be operated from anywhere, provided the operator has a suitable setup.
This means an EarthNode does not need to be physically located near World Mobile subscribers or AirNodes. Unlike radio access infrastructure, its primary role is within World Mobile’s blockchain and service infrastructure.
Depending on the final software and service requirements, operators may therefore use suitable dedicated hardware, hosted infrastructure or other supported deployment environments.
EarthNode Ownership and the ENNFT
World Mobile originally distributed the rights to operate EarthNodes through World Mobile EarthNode NFTs (ENNFTs). The ENNFT represents the right associated with operating an EarthNode within the World Mobile ecosystem.
This ownership history should be kept separate from the current WMTx staking mechanism. Earlier staking documentation used ENNFTs within pre-mainnet staking arrangements, but those historical rules should not be treated as current EarthNode delegation requirements.
Owning or holding EarthNode operating rights and delegating WMTx to an EarthNode are different roles. WMTx holders will be able to participate through EarthNode delegation without operating the infrastructure themselves.
EarthNode Operator vs. WMTx Delegator
The hardware and operational requirements on this page apply to the EarthNode Operator. They do not apply to a WMTx holder who only wants to delegate tokens.

Delegates WMTx
Does not need EarthNode hardware. The delegator selects an EarthNode and delegates WMTx once delegated EarthNode Staking becomes available.

New EarthNode Services: Storage, Networking, Compute & AI
The EarthNode role is expanding beyond the earlier Chain and Communication-as-a-Service model. World Mobile’s EarthNode Agentic Ecosystem and Atmosphere Grid introduce additional infrastructure services including decentralized storage, private networking, secure compute and edge AI inference.
These newer capabilities are being introduced in stages. World Mobile has described the Agentic Ecosystem and Atmosphere Grid as live on testnet, with phased mainnet deployment planned.
Operators should therefore expect the infrastructure profile of an EarthNode to depend increasingly on the services it provides rather than on one permanent hardware specification for every node.
Which EarthNode Requirements Are Not Yet Final?
The existing World Mobile documentation provides useful technical reference values, but it does not establish every requirement for the final external-operator environment.

Maracuja Nodes holds the right to operate a World Mobile Earth Node and plans to operate it when the relevant production infrastructure and operator process are available.
