Unetwork Guide · Operator Software License

What Is a Unetwork License?

A Unetwork Operator Software License gives a Unetwork License Operator (ULO) access to participate in Unetwork through the mobile app. The ULO does not necessarily need to own the license: Operator Software Licenses can also be accessed through Unetwork’s Digital Lease system.

For License Operators: The relevant license is the Operator Software License. It enables smartphone-based participation in Unetwork without requiring you to operate dedicated server infrastructure.

What Is a Unetwork Operator Software License?

A Unetwork Operator Software License provides the software right required to operate the Unetwork application as a License Operator. Once a ULO has access to an eligible license and activates it in the app, the smartphone can contribute to the network by performing eligible telecommunications verification and monitoring activity.

The Operator Software License should be distinguished from a Unetwork Node Software License. Node Software Licenses are associated with the Unetwork Node Operator role and include multiple Operator Software Licenses. For most users who want to participate through a smartphone, the Operator Software License is the relevant license.

Good to know: Unetwork represents both Node Software Licenses and Operator Software Licenses as NFTs. For day-to-day participation as a ULO, however, the important question is whether you have access to an active Operator Software License.

License Operator vs. Node Operator

Unetwork separates the smartphone-based License Operator role from the Node Operator role. Understanding this distinction makes the license and Digital Lease model much easier to follow.

ULO

Unetwork License Operator

The ULO uses an Operator Software License together with the Unetwork mobile app and contributes eligible network activity from a compatible smartphone.

UNO

Unetwork Node Operator

The UNO operates the node-side license structure. A Unetwork Node Software License includes Operator Software Licenses that can be used directly or made available to License Operators, including through Digital Lease.

Do You Have to Own a Unetwork License?

No. A License Operator needs access to an Operator Software License, but does not necessarily need to own the license. Unetwork’s Digital Lease system allows Operator Software Licenses to be made available to ULOs through the Unetwork app.

This separates license ownership from license operation. A Node Operator can provide access to an Operator Software License while the ULO uses the license on a smartphone and performs the eligible network activity.

How Does Unetwork Digital Lease Work?

Digital Lease connects a Unetwork Node Operator with a License Operator. The lease conditions, including the reward-sharing terms, are defined before the lease is activated and handled through the digital lease agreement.

DIGITAL LEASE

1 · License

An Operator Software License is available for use.

2 · Lease

The Node Operator makes the license available under defined lease terms.

3 · Activate

The License Operator activates access through the Unetwork app.

4 · Operate

The ULO participates from a compatible smartphone.

Marketplace or Private Lease Code?

A leased Operator Software License can be accessed through available leasing options in Unetwork. License Operators may also use a private Lease Code provided by a Node Operator. A Lease Code is therefore one way of accessing a leased license — it is not an additional requirement for every Operator Software License.

Lease conditions can differ between offers. Important terms can include the reward split and other conditions attached to the lease.

What Do You Need to Use a Unetwork License?

For smartphone-based participation as a License Operator, the main requirements are:

  • A compatible Android or iOS smartphone
  • The Unetwork mobile app
  • Access to an eligible Operator Software License
  • A stable internet connection

Current status · August 2026

Unetwork Credits are currently not required for the operational use of a license. Unetwork’s official website and documentation continue to describe Credits as part of the participation model, including plans starting at $1.99 per month. The current operational status therefore differs from the documented model and may change as Unetwork develops.

The current operational status above is based on Maracuja’s experience as a Unetwork Node Operator. It is stated separately from Unetwork’s published Credit model.

What Does the License Enable You to Do?

With an active Operator Software License, the Unetwork app can use the smartphone to contribute eligible telecommunications and edge-network activity. Unetwork describes functions including network verification, monitoring, network intelligence and performance analysis.

Verification

Perform eligible technical checks and contribute verification activity.

Monitoring

Contribute distributed information about network conditions and behaviour.

Network Intelligence

Provide distributed data that can contribute to network analysis.

Performance Analysis

Support analysis of telecom network quality and performance.

For a broader explanation of the network itself and how smartphone activity is documented, see our What Is Unetwork? Guide for License Operators.

Can a Unetwork Operator Software License Generate Rewards?

Yes. License Operators can generate rewards from eligible network activity performed through the Unetwork app. Rewards depend on actual network contribution and should not be understood as a fixed or guaranteed return.

Under Unetwork’s current network model, License Operators receive a share of the network service fees generated by their activity. If the Operator Software License is leased, part of the ULO’s reward share can flow to the connected Node Operator according to the agreed Digital Lease terms.

Reward sharing with a leased license

The reward split is defined by the lease conditions. Compare the terms of a lease before activating it rather than assuming that every leased Operator Software License uses the same split.

How to Start Using a Unetwork License

1 · Access

Get access to an Operator Software License directly or through Digital Lease.

2 · Install

Install the current Unetwork app on a compatible smartphone.

3 · Activate

Connect and activate the license using the applicable access method.

4 · Participate

Keep the app available for eligible Unetwork activity and monitor your status.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Unetwork Operator Software License?

A Unetwork Operator Software License gives a Unetwork License Operator access to participate in Unetwork through the mobile app on a compatible smartphone.

Do I have to own a Unetwork license to participate?

No. A License Operator needs access to an Operator Software License but does not necessarily need to own it. Operator Software Licenses can also be accessed through Unetwork’s Digital Lease system.

What is the difference between a Unetwork Node Software License and an Operator Software License?

A Node Software License is associated with the Unetwork Node Operator role and includes multiple Operator Software Licenses. An Operator Software License is the license relevant to a License Operator participating through the Unetwork mobile app.

What is Unetwork Digital Lease?

Digital Lease allows an Operator Software License to be made available to a License Operator through the Unetwork app. The lease conditions, including reward-sharing terms, are defined before activation.

Do I need a Lease Code for every Unetwork license?

No. A private Lease Code is one method of accessing a leased Operator Software License. It is not an additional requirement for every Operator Software License.

Do Unetwork License Operators currently need Credits?

As of August 2026, Credits are not currently required for operational use based on Maracuja’s experience as a Unetwork Node Operator. Unetwork’s published documentation continues to describe Credits as part of the participation model, so this status may change.

Can a Unetwork Operator Software License generate rewards?

Yes. License Operators can generate rewards from eligible network activity. Actual rewards depend on network contribution and, for leased licenses, the reward-sharing conditions defined in the lease.

What device do I need for a Unetwork Operator Software License?

Unetwork supports compatible Android and iOS smartphones for License Operator participation through the Unetwork mobile app.
